Design Guidelines for CNC Machining

Avoid Thin Walls
Minimum wall thickness should be at least 1mm for metals and 0.8mm for plastics to prevent deformation during machining.
Reduce Deep Pockets
Depth-to-width ratio should not exceed 4:1 for standard tools. Deeper pockets require special tooling and increase cost.
Minimize Tight Tolerance Zones
Only specify tight tolerances (±0.005mm or less) where absolutely necessary. Wider tolerances reduce cost and improve lead times.
Use Standard Tool Sizes
Standard drill sizes and end mill diameters are more cost-effective. Custom tooling increases setup time and cost.
Add Relief Features
Include relief features to allow tools to exit cleanly and reduce tool wear. This improves surface finish and tool life.
Consider Material Properties
Different materials have different machining characteristics. Consult with our engineers to select the optimal material for your application.
Frequently Asked Questions
What tolerance can CNC machining achieve?
Up to ±0.005mm depending on material and geometry. For critical features, we can achieve ±0.003mm with specialized processes.
