Quick Answer

HVAC equipment OEMs rarely need a ductwork contractor — they need a sheet metal supplier that understands equipment chassis: panels that fit the cabinet, brackets that hold the coil, a drain pan that does not leak, a fan shroud that lines up. We make those discrete components to your drawings and referenced standards, in the materials and finishes your unit calls for, from a single prototype to production runs. We are a component manufacturer, not a field-duct installer.

HVAC Sheet Metal Components We Make

We produce the fabricated sheet metal pieces that go inside and around HVAC equipment — not spiral duct runs or building duct systems. The families below are the ones HVAC OEMs most often source from us; each is built to your drawing, cutout schedule and bill of materials.

We also build related custom sheet metal enclosures for other equipment types — see our custom sheet metal electronics enclosures page for the broader capability, or the sheet metal fabrication services overview.

Scope note: we supply discrete components and sub-assemblies to the OEM's design. We do not engineer, fabricate or install complete duct systems, spiral duct runs or pressure-class field ductwork, and we do not perform on-site installation. We also do not certify individual components to system-level standards such as AHRI 1350/1351 or EN 1886:2025 — those apply to the complete air-handling unit as a system and are the responsibility of the equipment manufacturer.

Materials for HVAC Sheet Metal

HVAC sheet metal is usually one of four families. We specify the actual material standard and thickness in millimetres so there is no ambiguity at receiving inspection.

Material (standard / grade)Typical HVAC useNotes
Cold-rolled steel (SPCC / EN 10130)Enclosures, brackets, framesGood formability and paint base; used where corrosion exposure is low.
Galvanized steel (DX51D+Z / ASTM A653)Outdoor casings, pans, louvresZinc coating resists corrosion; coating mass selected per environment.
Aluminum (3003 / 5052)Lightweight panels, louvres, heat-pump housingsCorrosion resistant, easy to form; 5052 for higher strength.
Stainless steel (304)Washdown, coastal, high-humidity partsCorrosion resistance where galvanized is insufficient.

Gauge vs thickness: "gauge" is a regional naming convention, not a universal thickness standard — the same gauge number maps to different millimetres across systems (e.g. US vs UK/BG). We quote and machine to the actual thickness in mm (for example SPCC 1.5 mm, DX51D+Z 1.2 mm), so the drawing and the parts always agree.

Coating grades: galvanized coating designations — Z140 per EN 10346, or G60 / G90 per ASTM A653 — are available options selected per project against your specification; we confirm the required coating mass and standard on the drawing rather than assuming one.

Fabrication Capabilities

All components are produced on one floor: cutting, forming, joining and secondary operations under a single ISO 9001:2015 quality system, so the parts that meet at assembly are made to one standard.

Enclosures, frames and brackets assembled and welded on the same floor.

Secondary

PEM · hardware · tap

Fasteners and inserts set, threads tapped, so the unit goes together cleanly.

Prep

Degrease & surface

Assembly

Sub-assembly & kit

Components supplied as a built sub-assembly or kit where useful to you.

Where a component also needs machined features (e.g. a bracket with bored holes or a turned bushing), we coordinate that on the same floor — see our CNC machining services.

Tolerances & DFM for Sheet Metal

Sheet metal tolerances are driven by material, thickness and process, not applied as one number across the part. We confirm achievable limits at quote time against your drawing.

AspectTypical capabilityHow we apply it
Bend angle±0.5° typicalDepends on material springback and tooling.
Bend-to-feature±0.2–0.5 mmMeasured from the bend line.
FlatnessPer part geometryLarge panels may need stiffeners or be checked on a flat table.
Hole diameter±0.1 mm (punched)Taps and reaming applied as specified.
Weld shrinkageAllowed in layoutCompensated in the developed flat pattern.

Reference basis: dimensions are confirmed against your drawing together with ASME Y14.5-2018 / ISO 22081:2021 as applicable. ISO and ASME are related but not interchangeable, so the drawing states which standard applies rather than assuming one.

  • Bend radius — keep the inside radius ≥ material thickness where possible to avoid cracking on galvanized or stainless stock.
  • Bend direction — consistent directions simplify the flat pattern and reduce setup.
  • Corner relief — add relief at formed-pan corners to prevent tearing at the bend.
  • Hole placement — respect minimum hole-to-edge and hole-to-bend distances so features stay accurate.
  • Functional vs cosmetic — tell us which features are functional so we prioritise tolerance spend there.

Surface Finishing

Finishing scope must be stated clearly so you know what we perform and what we coordinate.

FinishScopeNotes
Degreasing & surface prepIn-houseStandard before any coating.
Passivation (ASTM A967)In-house where qualifiedStainless corrosion layer; otherwise audited partner.
Galvanizing / zincAudited externalOn galvanized stock or post-coat per spec.

Anodizing (Al)Audited externalType II / III per alloy.

Honest boundary: degreasing and passivation (where the line is qualified) are handled in-house. Powder coating, anodizing and post-galvanizing are coordinated through audited external partners, with finish certificates available on request. Final finishing scope — including whether coating is performed in-house — is confirmed per project, so tell us your finish requirement when you request a quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What HVAC sheet metal components do you make?
We make the discrete fabricated sheet metal pieces that go inside and around HVAC equipment: AHU panels and enclosures, equipment frames and mounting brackets, fan housings and shrouds, access panels and inspection doors, filter frames, condensate drain pans, louvered panels and duct interface components. We supply components and sub-assemblies to the OEM's design — we do not engineer or install complete duct systems.
Do you certify components to AHRI 1350/1351 or EN 1886:2025?
No. AHRI 1350/1351 and EN 1886:2025 are system-level standards for a complete air-handling unit or factory-made air duct as an assembly, and certification belongs to the equipment manufacturer. We fabricate components to your drawings and referenced standards; we do not certify individual parts to those system-level standards.
Can you work to a gauge thickness specification?
We machine and form to the actual thickness in millimetres. "Gauge" is a regional naming convention, not a universal thickness standard — the same gauge number maps to different millimetres across systems. We confirm the exact mm value on the drawing so there is no ambiguity at receiving inspection.
What materials do you use for HVAC sheet metal?
The four families we use most: cold-rolled steel (SPCC / EN 10130), galvanized steel (DX51D+Z / ASTM A653), aluminum (3003 / 5052) and stainless steel (304). Galvanized coating designations such as G60, G90 or Z140 are selected per project against your specification.
Do you powder coat in-house?
Degreasing and passivation (where the line is qualified) are handled in-house. Powder coating, anodizing and post-galvanizing are coordinated through audited external partners, with finish certificates available on request. Final finishing scope is confirmed per project, so tell us your finish requirement when you request a quote.
What tolerances can you hold on bent sheet metal?
Typical capability is bend angle ±0.5° and bend-to-feature about ±0.2–0.5 mm, with hole diameters around ±0.1 mm when punched. Tolerances are confirmed against your drawing together with ASME Y14.5-2018 / ISO 22081 as applicable — we do not apply one blanket tolerance to every feature.
What is your minimum order quantity?
MOQ is 1 piece. We support single prototypes through low-volume batches and ongoing production, so you can validate a panel or bracket before committing to a larger run.
How fast can you deliver HVAC sheet metal parts?
Low-volume runs are typically 7–20 working days and production 15–25 working days after file and quote confirmation, depending on complexity, quantity and finishing. Dates are confirmed per order.
Do you provide material certificates and inspection reports?
Yes. Material mill/test certificates and inspection reports such as CMM reports or FAI reports per AS9102 (on request) can be supplied. Tell us which documents your quality system requires when you request a quote.
What files do I need to send for a quote?
Send a 2D drawing (PDF/DWG) with dimensions, bend schedule and tolerances, plus a 3D model (STEP) where available, with material grade, quantity and finish. Target lead time and any required certificates let us return an accurate quote faster.
