Custom CNC Rapid Prototyping

Functional, production-intent prototypes machined from your drawings — built to validate fit, function and manufacturability before you commit to tooling or volume.

  • Prototype lead time3–7 working days
  • Minimum order1 piece
  • Typical tolerance±0.01 mm
  • Processes3 / 4 / 5-axis milling & turning

What this service delivers

CNC rapid prototyping turns your CAD model or drawing into a real, machinable part in days rather than weeks. Because the part is cut from solid stock on the same equipment used for production, the prototype reflects true material behavior, wall stiffness, thread engagement and surface finish — not an approximation from a printer or a soft mock-up.

We work as an OEM/ODM partner: you supply the design intent and requirements, and our engineering team returns a manufacturability review, a firm quote and a machined part that you can assemble, test and hand to customers. When the design is proven, the same drawings and fixtures carry straight into low-volume and production runs across our in-house processes.

Honest scope: lead times, tolerances and finishes stated on this page are typical capabilities, not a fixed promise for every geometry. Each quote confirms what is achievable for your specific part and material.

How the part gets made

Most prototypes follow a short, predictable chain. The steps below are the same ones we use for production, which is why a prototype from us rarely needs to be re-sourced once it is validated.

Illustrative — 5-axis CNC milling machine machining an aluminum block
5-axis CNC milling lets complex prototypes be cut in fewer setups, improving accuracy on angled and contoured features.
Setup

Program & fixturing

The part is programmed from your model and fixtured for the fewest stable setups, reducing cumulative setup error.

Roughing

Material removal

Stock is brought close to shape efficiently, leaving controlled margins for finishing passes.

Finishing

Accuracy & finish

Final passes hold the tolerance and surface finish agreed in the DFM review.

What you can specify

A prototype is only useful if it matches the variables you need to test. Tell us which of these matter for your validation, and we will quote accordingly.

Material choice changes weight, stiffness, thermal behavior and surface finish — all of which can be prototyped before commitment.
Material

Metal or plastic

Aluminum, stainless and alloy steels, brass, copper, or engineering plastics including ABS, PC, POM, Nylon and PEEK. Specific grades quoted per project.

Tolerance

Standard or tight

Typical ±0.01 mm, with ±0.005 mm on qualified features where geometry and material allow. Critical dimensions flagged in review.

Finish

As-machined or treated

Bead blast, anodize, powder coat, plating or brushed finishes to match the intended production look.

Secondary ops

Beyond the cut

Threads, tapping, deburring, insert press-in, basic assembly and labeling can be included in the same order.

Quality control & inspection

Prototypes are inspected against the drawing you supply. Measurement is performed with calibrated equipment, and the depth of reporting is set by what your validation needs.

Illustrative — CMM inspecting a machined aluminum part
Coordinate measuring machine (CMM) inspection verifies critical dimensions against the supplied drawing.
  • In-process checks at key machining stages to catch deviation early.
  • Final inspection with calipers, micrometers and CMM as required by feature criticality.
  • Dimensional reports provided on request for traceable validation.
  • First-article inspection (FAI) reports per AS9102 available on request.
  • All work performed under the ISO 9001:2015 quality system.

From drawing to delivered

The path from your file to a finished part is short and transparent. You always know which stage your order is in.

Step 1

Submit drawing

Send STEP, IGES, STL, DWG or DXF with dimensions and tolerances.

Step 2

DFM review

We flag tolerance, material and feature risks and confirm achievability.

Step 3

Quote & confirm

You receive a per-part quote with a firm lead date, then approve.

Step 4

Machine & inspect

The part is cut, finished and measured against your drawing.

Step 5

Pack & ship

Parts are protected for transit and shipped to your address worldwide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the typical lead time for a CNC prototype?
Prototype parts are typically machined and shipped within 3–7 working days after drawing review and quote confirmation. Complexity, material availability and inspection scope can extend this; we state a firm date in the quote rather than a fixed universal promise.
What is your minimum order quantity for prototyping?
The minimum order quantity is 1 piece. Prototypes, single fixtures and very small batches are all supported, and pricing is quoted per part configuration rather than forcing a volume minimum.
What tolerances can you hold on prototype parts?
Typical CNC tolerances are ±0.01 mm, with ±0.005 mm achievable on qualified features. Tight tolerances are evaluated against the part geometry and material; we confirm achievable limits in the DFM review before production.
Which materials can you prototype in?
Common prototyping materials include aluminum alloys, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, brass, copper, and engineering plastics such as ABS, PC, POM, Nylon (PA) and PEEK. Specific grades are confirmed and quoted per project.
Do you provide inspection reports and first-article inspection?
Inspection is performed with calibrated measurement equipment including CMM. Dimensional reports are provided on request, and first-article inspection (FAI) reports per AS9102 are available on request. The exact scope is agreed in the quote.
Can you scale from prototype to production with the same supplier?
Yes. The same drawings and DFM feedback feed directly into low-volume and production runs across our six in-house processes, so geometry, fixtures and quality records carry over. Volume process choices such as injection molding are quoted separately when appropriate.
What file formats do you accept for quotes?
We accept STEP, IGES, STL, DWG and DXF, plus PDF drawings with dimensions and tolerances. A 3D model speeds quoting; a 2D drawing with clear tolerances is sufficient for many parts.
How do you protect my design confidentiality and IP?
Customer drawings and models are treated as confidential project data used only to manufacture the ordered parts. We work under customer-owned designs and do not publish customer part geometry without permission.
